Mixed Media Madness Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Blog Hops with Heart Mixed Media Madness Blog Hop!  If you need an alternative activity to the bouncing orange ball, WE have just the right kind of madness for you!  Our hop runs in a circle, so just click on the next participant's name at the bottom of each post to take you to the next inspiring creation!  I will post a list of all the talented bloggers at the end.

I have been keeping a bible journal lately, so I want to show you EXACTLY what that involves...

1.  I painted a very thin layer of clear gesso onto my page to prep it.  I don't do this for every page--just the ones I intend to get a little WET...I used a couple of sheets of vellum to protect the pages I am NOT working on today...

Yep, it curls...a bit.
2. Use a bit of washi to keep your page still...

I used a few circle cuts to mask off the bottom of my page.  Then I sponged Crystal Blue Exclusive Ink onto my skyline and up...

3. The verse I am working with is Isaiah 1:18

"Come now, let us reason[a] together, says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet,
    they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
    they shall become like wool."

I used my watercolors to add some red coming down from the top...then I stepped away to let it all dry...

4. I came back to a nice wrinkly red, white, and blue page.  Hmmmm, that was interesting to me. I stamped the word RED in Ruby Ink, and thought this Ruby Chevron washi worked nicely...and some cloudy washi...and some snowflake Cricut Artistry cuts...and clouds OF COURSE...and white snowy shimmer trim!

5. This last addition was completely spur of the moment...wool.  I stamped the Lamb from the Reason for the Season My Acrylix in White Daisy Pigment Ink and embossed with White Embossing Powder.

See the Wink of Stella Gitter on the snowflakes?  :)
I love the process of hearing God's Word through my art!  Now I can't wait to see the rest of the art on our hop!

Check out the fabulous madness over on Kelly's Blog next!

Here's the lineup for our hop this month:

Washi Wednesday: Bible Journaling Edition

Welcome back to another wonderful washi filled post all about my latest Bible journaling!  I am SO grateful that you stopped by and hope you find inspiration here.

Back in January, I signed up for one of those "read through the bible in a year" emails...and wouldn't you know it, I finally read the first one for this post, lol.  I don't really thrive on structure.  Guess that is an understatement.  ;)

What I DO know is that when I seek God out in His Word--the Bible--He has a way of being very pertinent to me in my NOW.  SO whatever the reason I didn't read that verse last month...when I read it NOW--was the right time.  I hope that makes sense.  If I had read it then, it would not have had the right impact.  Don't let that encourage you to procrastinate--I'm just saying that God has a way of making ANYTHING work out.  :)

Here is what I started with in Exodus 14...

Remember--I'm a stamper and a sticker-er, hahaha, not an artist.  I LOVE playing with letters though, so tried a bit of fancy lettering.  I ran some fun gelato sticks over the lettering and rubbed it with my finger to blend.  This is SO easy and makes such a wonderful feeling.  Next came the washi!

Those last two words are kind of hard for me...lol.
I googled some fonts to try and freehand for this page...the star was MY idea though!  :)

THIS gold polka-dot washi is one of my faves.

Since I have tons of Close to My Heart washi from being an independent consultant, I have a lot to work with...I have no idea how I collected SO many of the others though!  ;)

There's those two words again...sigh.
I hope you were able to get some inspiration from the art or from the Word today too!  :)

Washi Wednesday Meets Bible Journaling

Wellllllllllllll.....

It has definitely been awhile since I have posted a Bible Journaling update.  I know.  I haven't had nearly enough time to dabble...until lately!  I was able to finally get my Chapters washi'd (that IS really a term, you know.)  Check it out...

Let me tell you, this was more relaxing than I thought it would be, but it isn't for the faint of heart.  I didn't measure or anything, just eye-balled lining up the washi tape (some of them are on CLEARANCE right now on my website) along the edge while trimming it off with my non-stick micro-tip scissors.  The corners are definitely not all perfect and some of the strips wander, but let me tell you I love it!  The project came together just as imperfectly as I did!  ;)

I only used the washi tape on the first page of each chapter.  I ran it along the length of the side and folded half underneath.

AND I wouldn't have it any other way.  There is a lot to be said for recognizing and admitting imperfections.  So why would I try to place perfection where I absolutely do not require it?  Jesus did that for me!  I am a work in progress, and by Bible Journaling certainly is too.  Freedom is absolutely freeing, isn't it?

Thanks for taking a peek today.  I will be back in one week with another Bible Journaling update (and also tomorrow with another crafty CTMH creation!)  Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Back to Bible Journaling for Makeover Monday

For today's Makeover Monday segment, I made-over my Close to My Heart Medium Organizer in order to store my Bible Journaling supplies.  I cannot even believe this little box is so versatile!

Here is is all closed up and ready to go to any table in the house...because, let's face it...my craft desk is pretty crammed with projects most days, lol!

When you open it up, you just can't help but take in all the COLORS!  Water colors, highlighters, gelatos, sparkle crayons--they are all so appealing to the eye.

I removed a few dividers to make room for the bible and larger boxed supplies on this side...

But I kept the dividers in place to neatly arrange the smaller supplies on the other side...

I love how it all came together...and I even rearranged these since I took the pics to add my rolls of washi!  Can't wait to share more on this adventure later!  :)

Anyone else out there Bible Journaling these days?

My Journey Through Bible Journaling

Not too long ago...OK so like a year or more ago, lol, I ran across some blog posts about Bible journaling.  I fell in love with the idea of getting to the heart of God's word with art.  After all, art is one of the ways I speak my life...so it seems totally natural for God to speak more clearly to ME through it.

I started researching the how-tos and what supplies I might need to add to my collection to get started, ahem.  (I need supplies.  Right.)  I picked out the bible I wanted to use...and waited what seemed like eons for it to be back in stock SOMEWHERE, lol.  I guess LOTS of people discovered Bible journaling about the same time as me!  ;)

So, that brings me to today when I can finally say I completed a page!  I went so long not knowing where to begin...well, that is until I remembered to start at the very beginning--a VERY good place to start...

If you want the quick low-down on my supplies for this page, here you go:

Animal Greetings
Great Job
Close to My Heart Mini Pigment Inks
Hello, Life
Faber Castel Gelatos
Watercolor Paints
Brushes
Wink of Stella Glitter Brush
leftover Cricut cut (flower from Art Philosophy)

I probably could have planned the animal arrangement out a bit better, but I was a teeeeeny bit excited.  ;)

I think I need some more animals to fill in the gaps...

My bunny was trapped by the fold of the spine...it hit my stamping block.  Ooops!

I stamped the leaf, sun, and planet with my Watercolor Paints.

Now, remember--I am NOT in any way a good sketch/drawing/painting artist.  Shoot, I hardly even like my own handwriting most of the time.  I stamp.  I color.  I cut paper.  I did the things I DO, not the things I don't.  And it was good.  :)

I will share lots more about my Bible Journaling Journey, so stay tuned!

This is the set I used from Hello, Life!
